Garden of Reflection

A Garden of Reflection has been created in the grounds of the historic complex at Jersey War Tunnels. The garden provides an area of peace and tranquillity in which to consider the images and meaning of ‘Captive Island’ and to reflect on the causes and effects of conflict.

The banks of the garden have been reinforced with timber cribbing which holds over 50 steel plaques, each carrying an Occupation or conflict related fact, prompting reflection on some of the wider issues of military occupation and warfare.

A further 64 steel and concrete plaques have been laid into the lawns and flower beds; each commemorates a Jersey resident who died as a direct consequence of the Occupation.
