IDENTITY cards
were issued from 1941 onwards by the German Feldkommandantur and all persons
in Jersey aged 16 years and over had to carry a card to be produced on demand.
The originals were beige in colour with a black and white photograph stapled
in place.
Jersey-born Douglas Le Marchand was only 19 years old when he was shot and killed by German guards on the 11th October 1944. He was attempting to escape from the Island, along with three other friends, each with the hope of a better life across the sea in France.
The three other men survived but were arrested and held as German prisoners for the remaining months of the Occupation.
